Vintage Maybach and Porsche
My father was a Porsche driver. My mother is the Maybach. As a family we’d thunder up old forty, later interstate 80 in easy half the time over Donner summit descending the long grade that replaced the curvy old highway and left it to the climbers and cyclists like some forgotten pass in the alps perhaps the reschen or stelvio. If Its the Porsche one of us got the bench under the back window laying flat where the coats go looking up at the stars and counting the trucks we passed.
Today we fly - banking in over Martis camp into Truckee or taking the seaplane from Sausalito and landing within taxi distance of our pier.
Friends who come to visit don’t leave or at least their spirits don’t so we are never really alone - just enough so to feel solitude without the sadness.

Memories are reinforced by long early evening meals on the deck that linger long after the sun has set. Friendships are made and bonds grow. The old the young and the active all take their seat at the table to make this house a home. We start with the best bottle first while our senses are still keen and our minds do small battles with our knowledge of terroir and style. someone laughs and pours “you’re right but...”
It’s not what you think. Oh no. You can read all you want about luxury in the glossy magazines. The truth is actually being here. Having been here is second best but like il Pelicano in the 1960’s you could really only be there once all the rest is a derivative.

So, smile, muse and invite yourself to the real thing. Sit and look out onto the lake from a place where the native peoples camped and most people tiday can hope to only pass by and think about what’s truly valuable in your life - time, time to think, perhaps someone to share it with.
Everything you expect is here / and if it’s not I’ll introduce you to our concierge. Mostly, I’d like to hear from you, whatever it is you care to share.
